FLAP
The granddaddy of all light reduction and monitoring efforts and they were
the main model for CBCM.
They started over a decade ago and really put this issue on
the map.
They have great resources online for risk reduction and have helped
us tremendously.
NY Bird Monitors
Another early monitoring organization which also helped us
a great deal.
They were particularly instrumental in guiding us in setting up the database
- a daunting task!
Wings,
Wisconsin Night Guardians for Songbirds
A new light reduction and rescue organization in Milwaukee WI.
Fox Valley Wildlife Center
This is an organization that has taken many of our Chicago birds.
A worthy rehab to support!
Willowbrook Wildlife Center
Glen Ellyn wildlife rehabilitation center that supports
CBCM's rescue and protection efforts for birds.
Fellow Mortals, Lake
Geneva WI
This is the rehab that made our early work possible. It was the first
organization to take our rescued birds and a wonderful facility.
NEXRAD
RADAR - you can actually see the birds coming your way!
Just
click on any red dot to get a current reading. A loop is nice as it can show
the early
evening
take-off patterns (an exploding doughnut type movement) and also early morning
landing patterns (reverse of take-off pattern). The radar turns all red for
entire states on heavy migration nights
as thousands of songbirds make their way across the US.You can also
check
the velocity
aspect to see the direction of their movements. It's amazing!!!
TUTORIAL ON READING BIRD RADAR FROM CLEMSON U - thanks to the pioneering work of Professor Sid Gauthreaux - it is worth the learning curve!
